Family of Origin Issues

​What are signs and symptoms of an unhealthy family?
  • Does your family make you feel bad? Guilty or embarrassed? Worried to bring partners home to meet your family?
  • Do you have trouble finding your voice with your family?
  • Do you feel as though people in your family don't respect your emotional boundaries? 
  • Are fights in your family turn explosive? Do arguments ever resolve disagreements?
  • Do you ignored or neglected by your family?
  • ​Do your accomplishments seem to be brushed aside by your family while other family members get all the attention? 
  • Do there seem to be different sets of rules for different family members? 
  • Do you feel as though you have to hide what.you think or feel in order to keep the peace in your family?

It can be hard to put your finger on what is or is not a healthy family. But everyone should feel supported, cared for, and accepted by their family. If you feel drained by, upset or embarrassed by, ignored or neglected by your family, something is deeply wrong.
